Monthly Ski Sessions

Coronavirus update – The ski slope will reopen Monday 2nd April 2021.

From April 11th our monthly sessions will restart, we will operate in a Covid secure way. If you are new to Solent Ski Club, and would like to try a taster session please contact chaiarman@solentskiclug.org so that we can ensure a safe and enjoyable ski.

We meet on the second Sunday of every month (except August) at the Alpine Centre, Sports Centre, Bassett, Southampton, SO16 7LT. The skiing lasts from 10:00am until 12:00 midday. It’s best if you plan to arrive at the ski slope at 9:30am to allow time to register and get kitted up.

You are most welcome to join us at any session. It’s best if you can let us know that you will be skiing with us so that we can expect you – about a day or two before the session is best.

We hope to meet you at one of our ski sessions soon!

First time visits to Solent Ski Club

For Skiers with a disability the first visit can be a ‘taster’ session, it costs £5 per person and you will get the chance to try skiing sometime during our 2 hour session – probably for around 30 – 45 mins.* All ski equipment is provided, including a mandatory ski helmet and our own specialist ski equipment if required.** Don’t forget long sleeves, ski socks and gloves! Weatherproof clothing might also be required as we ski in all weathers! After this initial ‘taster’ session you will need to become a full member of Solent Ski Club to continue skiing with us.

Please visit our Forms page for the paperwork that needs to be completed before your visit (taster registration and temporary membership forms) – it’ll save you lots of time on the day!

*As we rely totally on volunteers to act as Guides and Helpers we cannot guarantee that a ‘taster’ will be possible at every session. We will endeavour to contact you in advance if we are aware of any problems.

**Please also understand that members of Solent SC are not be able to assist with wheelchair transfers that may involve lifting – skiers must provide their own means to transfer.

Becoming a Member of Solent Ski Club

New membership applications must be received at least 5 days in advance of any ski session to validate the insurance cover offered by Snowsport England. Please complete membership forms.

Regular Ski Sessions at Solent Ski Club

Skiing costs £8 per 2 hour session or part session. Helpers and Guides are free but must register their attendance. We must keep a log of all those who attend each session.

We do encourage family members and friends to join in with our skiers with a disability, this would normally mean acting as a Helper or a Skiing Helper (you must be a member to do this).

If you require direct access to the foot of the ski slope because of a disability you will have to meet at the automatic barrier by the main entrance to the Sports Centre at 9:30 – 9:45am where someone from Solent SC will let you through. Please do not be late as we can’t wait for you. The Alpine Centre in conjunction with Southampton City Council will not issue barrier passes to SSC Members.

If you are travelling any distance please check on our website or with the Alpine Centre that we will be running a Solent SC session – very occasionally the Alpine Centre will postpone or re-arrange one of our sessions.
